Wolves' Greatest Games by John Hendley is a special text for a special club, one that is overwhelming with history. Yes, Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club is one of the England's oldest clubs, having been founded in 1877.

Wolves were one of the original founders of the Football League, an early ancestor of the English Premier League. They have even played at the same location, Molineux, for 100+ years.

The discussion of the great games is absolute magic, bringing up some of the best memories from the club's long history. There is a lot of history and a lot of great moments from the 1893 FA Cup Final to EPL matches in 2011.

I have to say it was entertaining to see the growth of the club (and English football for that matter) over the pages of the book. Hendley gives great snapshots of matches, describing their importance and where they fit into the team's history. You encounter great managers, players, and of course the always supportive fans that stuck with the club in good times (dominance of the 1950s) to lows (being relegated out of the Premier League and then the Championship).

Very Helpful Book!

I bought this book a couple of years ago and it has been very helpful in studying the Bible. Easy to use and has the scriptures printed right beside the reference making it easy to look up. It can be used to reinforce the promises of God and help in lifes daily stuations. I would highly recommend this book for anybody that studies the Bible.

I mistakenly ordered the "Complete Book of Lists" by another author while trying to order this one which was recommended to me. Who would of guessed that it would be such a difference!

This book has much more detail and reference material while keeping the lists in better "context" with how they are used in the Bible. You can tell that more work was put into compiling these lists almost at a glance.

About the Author

Les Robinson is a former social marketer who lent communication finesse to citizen campaigns against sand mining, freeways, landfills, and Sydney's only household waste incinerator (now closed). He is now Australia's most experienced and knowledgeable change facilitator and a consultant to government agencies and councils in areas such as health, sustainability, road safety, and emergency management. Practical, optimistic, clearly written - inspiring.

Australian author Les Robinson has the enquiring mind of a born social researcher as well as the practical, questioning attitude necessary for a person who is interested in changing society for the better. In fact he has hands on experience in both sectors and for that reason this book acts as an outstanding guide for those interested in getting traction for change-making initiatives.

Robinson includes case studies - including the outstanding example of the creation of a new 'feed the poor initiative' that was based on a wonderfully simple solution (supermarkets don't actually enjoy sending waste food to land-fill)but one that took years of hard graft and reframing before the concept took hold. What were the stumbling blocks? What were the success factors?

This book is by turns illuminating and inspiring, and will appeal to change agents as well as to social researchers interested in the power of social networks and communities. I was puzzling over fundraising for a project I'm involved with - a school in Cambodia - and Robinson answered a whole lot of questions. What's more, his writing style makes him engaging, warm-hearted company. Well recommended.

About the Author
Thom Shea served 23 years with distinguished Valor as a Navy SEAL. During his military career he served in three wars, ultimately leading a team of Navy SEALs into Afghanistan in 2009 where he earned a Silver Star, Bronze Star with Valor, Army Commendation with Valor and his second Combat Action Medal. Shea is also the CEO of Adamantine Alliance, a leadership and human performance coaching organization. He now resides in Greenville, South Carolina, with his wife Stacy and three children.

Not just a collection of war stories....

I should start off by saying what this book isn't....

It's not slick. It's not like Marcus Luttrell's Lone Survivor. It's not Chris Kyle's American Sniper. And it's not definitely not Richard Marcinko's Rogue Warrior. Each of those was penned in part by others. (Patrick Robinson, Jim DeFelice and John Weisman respectively.) And yes, they are all fine books.

No, Thom Shea's Unbreakable was clearly written by the man himself.

It's a personal memoir, a "letter" to his children in case he didn't return home from battling America's enemies.

It must have been incredibly difficult to write. What does a father want to convey to his son about being a man? What does he want to tell his daughter about being a woman, wife and mother? How does he convey why his sacrificing his life with them was not just a selfish act, but one of love for his family, friends and Nation?

When reading, you can get the sense that the book was compiled from Thom's writing on bits of paper while riding in the back of a cargo plane or email's back home ,from a dusty base in some godforsaken land.

It's why I started by saying the book isn't slick. (It's also why it got four stars from me, and not five - it could have had tighter editing.)

But what it is is honest.

In an age where warriors are no longer glorified, but looked down upon by the politically correct, this book will be hard for them to read. The truth is, after all, a bitter pill to swallow. And the truth is, we need hard men - warriors - to do bad things to bad people.

To read Unbreakable is to get to know who Thom Shea is. A warrior.

A little less detail.

My biggest gripe is the content in the book that is just ridiculously repetitive. Also, this book is written for his kids. I have no problem what so ever of him talking about whacking hajis. Hell, that's what SEALs do. I loved reading about that.

My problem is the excessive amount of times he talks about wanting to bang his wife. In all honesty, if I'm one of his kids, I wouldn't be chomping at the bit to read a book where my dad talks about plowing my mom more than 10 times in the first 200 pgs. I get he loves his wife and how her connection to him helped him as a SEAL but come on.

Great for a student, great for a lover of fiction.

Wonderful selection of iconic Korean stories, authors, themes, which progress chronologically through a tumultuous modern trajectory. Themes center around modernization, Japanese occupation, male-female relationships, trauma, war, development and authoritarianism, rural vs urban, and so on. Heavy reads, prepare to have to sit and chew with the graphic characters and scenes for a few days (graphic in their rawness and or helplessness).

I ordered this book for my modern korean literature class and it was just what the teacher wanted. All of the stories give an inside sight into the thinking and mid-set of the writers under japanese colonization. This is an amazing book for anyone interested in korean history and culture or even if you like to read. It's refreshing :)

To fulfill university requirements, I took a Korean Lit class in which I enjoyed reading this anthology. I'm neither Korean nor a humanities major of any kind, but I enjoyed learning about the Korean culture, history, and literature through this collection. Most of my classmates--except the one that also reviewed it here--didn't seem to care for the class or text. However, I've sold off most of my college texts and kept this one.

But even the more poignant stories told in the third person--such as that of Billy Giles, a middling fighter hired by the local gym to make contenders look good, and "Angela's Eyes," infused with superstition, in which Angela possesses the ability to foresee death and destruction through her late father's eyes--keep an inviting, conversational tone. Grade 6 Up-Myers draws upon his experiences growing up in Harlem to create these 10 interconnected stories about a neighborhood inhabited by colorful, memorable characters. Teens figure prominently in these selections, but adults of varying ages also play dominant roles. One of the funniest characters is a fellow named Big Joe, who decides to organize his own funeral while he's still alive to enjoy it. One of the most memorable tales is "Monkeyman," in which a teen stands up to the local gang. A host of other characters come to life. These finely drawn personalities come together in the final story, the celebratory "Block Party-145th Street Style." People in the neighborhood have to put up with crime, police brutality, and poverty, but there are fun times, too. Myers gets a bit sentimental at times, especially in "A Christmas Story," but there's enough balance here among the emotions to make 145th Street a highly enjoyable short-story collection. What one comes away with after reading it is a vivid sense of place and a vibrant feeling of community.

Good Stories Spun by an Author with a Natural Voice

Walter Dean Myers' collection of short stories focuses on the inhabitants of "145th Street" in Harlem. Each story is well-crafted and geared to readers 12 and up; Delacorte Press is the children's branch of Random House Publishers. However, this volume is fine reading for adults as well as children.
The stories share characters, settings, and tone. Myers does an excellent job avoiding bad language while maintaining the vernacular and rhythms of the rich characters that he portrays. Myers has a knack for giving his characters life and credibility. Myers manages to give a sense of adult versus youth dialect in leading us through the concrete realities of Harlem.
Although characters are repeated in the stories, sometimes as background and others as key characters, each story stands on its own and may be read in any order without loss of continuity. In other words, the stories do not build on one another like chapters in a novel.
Each of the ten stories strikes a chord in the reader and "shows" rather than just "tells" you the pressures, fears, and joys of living in the "hood." Human emotion is itself a character throughout the collection and the story lines are expertly constructed to avoid being preachy while relating theme and the moral undercurrent of the human struggle with choices that must be made every day on 145th street.
I particularly enjoyed "Big Joe's Funeral" and "A Christmas Story." Big Joe is a restaurant owner and has his own particular, unique, and large view of what a funeral ought to be about. The Christmas tale delicately balances the spirit of Christmas against the desire of a policeman to separate his personal life from the harshness of the beat he walks.
Every story in this collection is interesting and entertaining. As a sampler, it has whetted my appetite for more of Walter Dean Myers' books. I highly recommend this collection for young or old readers and those who simply appreciate a good story spun by an author with a natural voice.

another coup for the amazing WD Myers

So much attention has been given to Christopher Paul Curtis lately, but it seems to me the prolific work of Walter Dean Myers needs a loud cheering section--so here goes. Two customer reviews, "Another Stunning Work..." and "Good Stories Spun..." give thorough synopses of this anthology. I'll add that my middle schoolers LOVED these stories when I bought the book last spring, and I plan on reading it with my seventh graders later this year too. The stories are combinations of slick, sad, silly, and serious, and therefore one story was able to hook the kids into reading another and another. One 12 year old boy in my class was so intrigued by a character named Peaches--described as "so fine"--that he paid attention to everything else we read from the book hoping she'd turn up again. And she did! Walter Dean Myers just has a keen sense of the world and his gift with words makes reading this, and any, book by him a pleasure.

I really liked the book because it realated or reminded me of being back home! Back home it seemed like everywhere around where i stayed everybody knew everybody, and thats the way the book was. On 145th street it seemed like everything happened and when it did everybody knew about it! i Also like the book because i like how he makes it sound like we're all sitting around listening to someone tell what happened earlier that day! The stories i really injoyed were Big Joe's funeral, and The Baddest Dog in harlem! I m really loking forward to reading more of his books!

C.Y. Joanne Peng (PhD, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Quantitative Methods with a minor in Statistics) is Professor of Educational Inquiry Methodology and Adjunct Professor of Statistics at Indiana University. Her research interests include logistic regression, missing data methods, and statistical computing using SAS, SPSS, BMDP, Minitab, CLUSTAN, Systat, and S+. She has published more than 50 refereed articles, book chapters, technical reports, and encyclopedia entries on applied statistics, psychometrics, and statistical computing. She is the author or co-author of two books on using SAS® for statistical analyses and received one BEST PAPER Award at a SAS® users annual conference. She has taught applied statistics and data analysis courses at major Research I universities for the past 20 years, including University of Wisconsin, University of Iowa, University of North Carolina, and Indiana University. She is a member of the American Statistical Association, American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association, and the SAS Users Group International.

Great Introductory Reference

This book is a very well-written and well-organized introduction to SAS. Each chapter includes many examples, which are clearly explained. Rather than simply explaining how to write the code, the author guides the reader through interpreting the results. If you have no experience using SAS, this is a great resource, though more intermediate users may wish to look elsewhere for a more advanced book. For me, the most helpful chapter has been 'When Do You Stop Worrying and Start Loving Regression?', which guides you through writing the initial code (including variations for different types of models) as well as interpreting and testing the results. Highly recommended!

Exceptionally good

I have been teaching SAS (and trying to find good SAS texts) for many years and I LOVE this book.

If you need to get one book on learning the SAS language get this. It covers everything from importing, to manipulating data (sorting and making new variables), and doing analysis with exceptionally easy to understand writing and very well annotated SAS code. The code, data sets and other materials are provided on the books website. So, you can easily follow along and produce output as you work your way through the book. The organization, index and table of contents are excellent.

The only down side to the book is that it was written with SAS 9.1.3 and the current release (9.2) adds a LOT of new tools for graphics. You can make up the difference with Statistical Graphics in SAS: An Introduction to the Graph Template Language and the Statistical Graphics Procedures or by digging in the most modern SAS support website.

While the lack of coverage of the new graphics procedures is an important drawback, there is no other book which covers the SAS programming language this well.

least helpful sas book I own

I bought this book when I was just beginning to learn SAS and I found it to be useless. I attempted to use it numerous times only to find what I needed didn't exist in text (I'm a social science researcher who often uses multivariate and univariate statistics) although occasionally the method was referenced in the text it did not give examples or clear explanations of how to write the code in SAS.

Save your money and don't buy this worthless book.

The Rev. Markene Meyer, an ordained minister in the Anglican Church in North America, enjoys helping people thrive in relationship with Christ and discover a more life-giving way. A spiritual formation writer and spiritual director, Markene contributed to the Spiritual Formation curriculum at Dallas Theological Seminary, where she formerly served as Associate Director of Spiritual Formation. Markene holds a doctor of ministry degree in spiritual formation. A lifelong Texan, she lives in the Lone Star State with her husband and three children.

"Thrive: Life-Giving Disciplines for a Chaotic World" is a beautiful resource that provides a healing balm for our hurried souls.

The 21st-century culture promotes a couple of false assumptions. First, faster is better and more productive. Second, that 'newer' is always better. Newer technology beats older technology. Newer medical resources beat treatments from decades past. But in reality, timeless truths still exist, and we need to pay attention to ancient wisdom.

In Thrive, Markene Meyer helps us reintegrate some timeless truths and ancient wisdom by teaching, guiding, and providing practice of spiritual disciplines from early Christianity. Each week, Meyer provides time for practice and includes contemplative questions regarding our practice experiences. I found each unit's teaching, time of practice, and questions for contemplation to provide deep soul-rest for myself and others weary of attempting to engage God with formulas or practices that have grown too routine, too laborious, or no longer fit well in a current season of life.

Markene Meyer also encourages us to consider our unique, divine-designs in the culmination of Thrive in order to create a rule of life. Our personalized "Rule" provides creative ways and practices that resonate with each of us to engage God as Christ-followers in healing ways that are life-giving. She provide several different examples of some rules of life from real people, which was so helpful. As we consider our individuality, which practices we resonate with us, and which spiritual disciplines fit well with our current Life circumstances, she leads us through writing our own rule of life. Meyer also encourages us to re-evaluate our rule of life frequently for any needed alterations as our needs or lives change.

I found Thrive a spiritually uplifting, transformative, and well written resource for life change. Thrive gave me permission to create a rhythm of life-giving disciplines that fit well with how God designed me. Meyer's encouragement to write my own rule of life with realistic expectations and flexibility freed me from a 'one size fits all' approach to nurturing my relationship with Christ. Thrive taught me how to dwell in God's presence simply for the joy of doing so.

A Fresh Take on Spiritual Disciplines
What a refreshing and inspiring book! The author paints a clear picture to finding a "more life-giving way," a way to find Jesus amidst the chaos of modern life. I loved the structure of this book and the whole idea behind a developing a "rule of life.” The book walks the reader through developing a personal “rule of life,” an ancient practice that has a way of centering modern readers. I also loved the focus on getting into God’s rhythm for our life, something badly needed in today’s harried culture. I found the book challenging and thought-provoking. If you’re looking for inspiration, a book to help breathe new life into your spiritual life, you’ll like Thrive.
