Paid for itself on the 1st trade

If you are looking to investment in the Forex market then this is a good starting point.

WHAT THIS BOOK IS:
1) A complete set of trading strategies with entry and exit points laid out clearly. Although you have to pay some attention to what is being said because there are a couple of 'mis-statements' that won't make sense until you realize they are editting errors and/or typos.

2) A long-term way of investing your money in a reasonably conservative fashion.

3) A good way of earning 5+% return per month on your capital.

WHAT THIS BOOK IS NOT:
1) A day trader's bible. All strategies are based on daily and weekly price movements.

2) A get rich quick scheme. Face the facts, making 5+% per month is pretty darn good. Anyone who promises more is full of what we hauled out of the calf pens when I was growing up.

Yes, all the strategies are probably available for free 'somewhere' on the internet. But for a couple of bucks you get it all in one spot.

I have 1+ years experience trading Forex and in the months of September and October 2010 I made 5+% per month using only the strategies in this book.

Would I recommend this to a friend - Yes

Ideas Worth Testing

What the author shares are ideas worth testing. For example, while the inside lemonade trade works well on some markets, it doesn't work at all on others. This is typical of any strategy, and my point is you need to back test these ideas. To further my point, Inside Days works on some currency pairs, and Inside Lemonade works on some currency pairs ... not necessarily the same currency pairs. Inside Days might work on one pair, but the lemonade trade doesn't work on the same pair. You should program each trade individually and give each trade a test on each pair to find what works and where it works.

Surprisingly, I didn't find the Reversal Day setup to be profitable on any pairs. The Reversal Lemonade works on a few.

Channel Breakout, using the typical 55/20 that Courtney also suggests in the book, doesn't work on a single currency pair. I see the potential of this trade though, with a better stop ... I'll be reprogramming it to exit on fractals using a shorter time frame than the time frame on which I entered on a channel breakout. I did find 90/90 works on some pairs with 30 minute bars.

Regardless of whether one of Courtney's specific trade setups work, the best thing to take away from this book are his ways of thinking:

1. His approach to psychology is great and can be summed up quickly: Consider yourself to be a casino, with the market as the gambler at your card table, and your trade setup as your card game. You lose some, win some, and overall you take home a profit. No need to freak out and yell at the monitor when a trade isn't making money. Play your hand and then play the next hand.

2. Program numerous trade setups that are based on a fundamentally sound idea. For example, inside days and reversal days, as well as reversal lemonade and inside lemonade, are all fundamentally sound, although they are not all profitable on all pairs. Start with something that works fundamentally. Program it, backtest it, throw out the ones that don't work, and forward test the trades that do work. Don't expect any trade to work on every pair. Trade it where it works.

3. Once you see it works even in forward testing, such as with a demo account or a small live account using micro pips, then open a larger live account and let it work for you.

Personally, I wouldn't get caught up in paying anyone to coach you to trade, which seems to be the end goal of this book. There are also a lot of typos that can seriously confuse you if you don't pay a lot of attention to what you're reading. I found them while highlighting and working through sections. Courtney says at the end of the book you can go to his website to ask a question, but I've never received a single answer. Lack of follow through and some trades that don't even work = 4 stars.

Good book for people who already have money

This is an interesting read with some solid methods for trading forex. My biggest complaint is that it only talks about positon (long term) trading based on the daily charts, and has almost nothing about day trading. Position trading is fine if you have a large amout of capitol and can withstand some major drawdowns, but the majority of traders are starting with much less money. The author has been a professional trader for many years, and at least this is a book written by someone who actually does make money consistently and has a long term track record of success. The methods presented are successful in the long run if your account can withstand losing hundreds of pips 45% of the time.

Did I miss something?

(2.5 stars) This book was raved about online, it's award winning, and in my efforts to continue my dark and twisty book binge (post Gillian Flynn and Girl on the Train), I was very excited about In The Woods. And boyyyy did this book start off fantastic. I was infatuated with Ryan and Cassie's partnership, felt weirdly connected to Cassie and felt a brotherly annoyance for Ryan. And Ryan's childhood mystery made my spine tingly with eagerness for answers. Very quickly, however, my love affair faded. The characters became stale, the motorway case (which I thought was a distraction to the original plot; boy was I wrong) even staler, Ryan's character became annoyingly horrible (in the sense of bad writing, not character development. I worry French couldn't figure out what to do with him). Despite this, however, I kept reading on. A lot of mysteries have the dull moments,usually purposeful; the calm before the storm. I did not see that here at all. French kept dangling the little glimmer of hope throughout making it seem certain that we were gonna receive answers (and based on the awards this book has received I assumed the answers were going to be mafnificent). We did not. I was convinced the motorway plot line was a distraction and the true mystery lied in Ryan and Peter and Jamie! I found myself gripping with useless hope that the last handful of pages was going to give me SOMETHING. A page, a paragraph, hell, three words to pull this book together. I had extraordinary faith in this book and was extremely disappointed. In case you didn't get the gist: RYANS CHILDHOOD CASE NEVER RECEIVES AN ANSWER. nothing. I was worried I skipped a chapter or naively missed something, so I went back, I reread some, I searched for answers online. Nothing. NOTHING. That entire plot line was as useless as Ryan's memory.
I will say, however, that French's writing kept me quite entranced at times and was able to keep me to the end of her 430pg book despite only about 150 of those pages having been laced with interesting plot. It is her first novel so perhaps her other published pieces will rank higher. This one, though, did not live up to the hype.

Spinning spinning spinning

A friend, who I used to trust, recommended Tana French. I don't know if things improve with later books, but this was painfully boring. I was skipping so fast by the mid-point my finger got tired. My husband threw in the towel. The mysterious noises in the woods meant.......? The entire early childhood abductions had zero to do with the story. Zero. Yet we are flogged with it, and his half-baked angst, the entire book. The resolution. Meh. You knew who the mastermind was the minute she hit the scene. It was a lot like spinning out on ice, except it never hits a snowbank. It just keeps spinning until it runs out of energy. Even the mysterious thing stuck on the bottom of the guy's shoe. What? Why?

Though I share many of the gripes of other reviewers I have to give this book 5 stars. The inner lives of the characters and their relationships are so precise and finely tuned. She never uses one sentence where two would suffice, but there is not one banal line in all her flights of fancy. Mostly I say 5 stars because of the ballsyness of writing a mystery unsolved (with plenty of resolution to other huge whodunit). There are one million mystery books that all end essentially the same way-- ironic that they're called mysterys at all. They are foregone conclusions. Now I love the genre and all but have to applaud the resolve and grit it takes to deny the reader and not condescend to us. Guess what. Bad guys get away and some questions don't have answers. If that truth is unacceptable then reading this book was probably good for you.

My biggest issue was with the naval-gazing shmuck narrator. His inability to get out of his own way was a yawn. He was punished for his narcissism. But that didn't save me from spending excessive time with a narcissist.

Fantastic!

This book is like a bible! I was almost overwhelmed by the detail and great content shared in this book. I found the emotional components related to each disease to be very accurate and the key points shared in the book to be extremely helpful! Evette also clearly explained the Key Points under each disease and emotional components, which issues and blocks to focus on when approaching certain diseases. The Key Points are explained very well. If you are a an alternative practitioner then you will find that in the a session with a client has already been mapped out for you in the Key Points under each illness. This was so helpful, as Evette recorded all the right questions to ask a client.

I particularly loved the first 4 chapters in the book, where Evette explains the history and foundation of Metaphysical Anatomy and a little bit about their personal development seminars content, which was high level information but easy to understand and interesting.

She also explained how to become a better alternative practitioner by sharing great tips on how to improve your practitioner skills. I am an alternative practitioner and found this to be very helpful and insightful.

This book is a must-have for all holistic healthcare and well-being professionals and I look forward to working with it for many years to come.

Mind/Body/Spirit Connection

Metaphysical Anatomy takes a deep look at the mind/body/spirit connection of disease and illness. While there are other books that address this idea, Metaphysical Anatomy takes the subject much deeper with more insight and suggestions. When I have looked up issues with myself, I am frequently surprised at how the information accurately pertains to my personality, past experiences and view of the world. A very good book that raises the bar compared to previous published books on the same subject and will make you look at your well being from a different perspective.

Great stuff, with one caveat

As a therapist and a person in the midst of healing an "incurable" neurological issue, I very much appreciate the information in Volume 2. It's right on target, and a promising tool for releasing trauma and for healing. However, when I read the description I somehow missed the important bit about needing Volume 1 in order to utilize the information. Volume 1 is available on Amazon as a paperback, not in Kindle format now. And it is costly! ONLY BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE WILLING TO BUY VOLUME 1. That's no doubt why the 1 star review got written. I think this needs to be clearly stated in the description. To the authors credit, she said the description I read was an unauthorized version which she is straightening out. She thanked me and offered a coupon for Volume 1. I've ordered Volume 1 and will update review.

There are few Presidents of the United States whose historical image has changed more frequently than that of Andrew Johnson. In the immediate aftermath of the Civil War and Reconstruction, he was considered inept and stubborn. After some time, however, Reconstruction was no longer seen as a holy crusade, and Johnson's reputation began to improve. By the 1920's, Johnson had become a great hero who had courageously defended the Constitution against unprincipled radicals. But as circumstances changed again and racial problems were once more weighing upon America's conscience, the seventeenth President's achievements began to appear more questionable. Perhaps he had not been so admirable after all; perhaps his stubborn resistance to radical demands for black suffrage merited disapprobation rather than praise. His portrait was tarnished a second time. Not only was he now labeled a racist, but an inept politician as well.

In Impeachment of a President: Andrew Johnson, the Blacks, and Reconstruction, Trefousse paints a portrait of Johnson as a man who was honest, stubborn, and certain of the justice of his cause. Trefousse argues that Johnson was not the man to inch from the implications of decisions which might interfere temporarily with his long-range aims. Often alienating potential allies, he could have probably achieved more had he cooperated with moderate republicans. In part, he might even have realized his white supremacist aims. But once he had made his decision, once he had refused to come to terms with the moderates, his subsequent actions were not illogical. His policy may not the most intelligent-he was no political genius-but it was not wholly unsuccessful.

Hans Trefousse (1921-2010) was Distinguished Professor of History at Brooklyn College and at the Graduate Center, of the City University of New York.

Great for Beginners!

For those who are interested in getting started on drawing manga or drawing human figures in general, this is a GOOD book to use. I own "Mega Manga" and the "How to Draw Manga" series, but I will note that this was an excellent start for me. This book takes readers step-by-step in learning how to draw body positions/angles, hairstyles, clothing and accessories, and even animals in a Japaneses anime style.

Once you become more serious with drawing Manga, then I would recommend trying the "How to Draw Manga" books. But start with this first.

Excellent reference book for drawing the human figure

I'm not interested specifically in Manga, but I was looking for a reference book to use in improving my figure drawing skills. This is an excellent source for drawing the human figure. I very quickly improved my skills following the Mega Manga instructions for the human figure. I would have given this book 5 stars except for the following, the book is approximately 6 inches x 8 inches in size. I think an 8 1/2 x 11 would have been much better. Secondly, the book would be a better study guide if it had been spiral bound. If you could lay the book flat it would help. And, lastly, the print is very small and it's printed mostly in light gray ink, which does not make for easy reading. However, I still think Mega Manga could prove to be a valuable reference for your drawing work.

Good Basic Techniques

I bought this book a while ago and i just decided to give it more attention. I went through the book and it's good for anyone who wants to learn basic skills in drawing manga. It has a chapter for each part of the body and for other non-related body anatomy. Although it doesn't give you a lot of examples and depth details, i still recommend it to anyone who wants to learn very simple and easy techniques.

This is an excellent book for elementary teachers who want to add pop up to their projects. it creates ties to all parts of the curriculum and has easy projects for even the smallest student.

About the Author

 Dr. Henry Cloud is an acclaimed leadership expert, psychologist, and New York Times best-selling author with his books selling more than 10 million copies. As a speaker, Dr. Cloud has shared the stage with many business and global leaders and experts, such as Tony Blair, Jack Welch, Condoleezza Rice, Desmond Tutu, Malala Yousafzai, and others. Yoshihito Isogawa is a LEGO luminary with 46 years of building experience. In addition to running Isogawa Studio, Inc., he regularly holds LEGO workshops, lectures at schools and science museums, and creates LEGO models for events and exhibitions. He is the author of the popular LEGO Technic Idea Book series (No Starch Press), as well as other Japanese-language LEGO titles.

Stop building other people's robots, start doing robotics

Until we came across this book my six year old and I had been following the typical routine of following a book or internet instructions adding a few creative modifications here and there at the end. Building this way does give you experience and teaches you tricks and principles but it can also make robotics seem more daunting than it should be because you can't help but be awed and intimidated by the intricate designs of people who are expert builders. Your six year old is not going to try to modify that complicated steering mechanism which took four pages of book instructions to explain.
In contrast most of the things built in Isogawa's book are explained in just one or two picture frames. Everything is a mechanism, beautifully and simply presented to invite you to want to understand the ideas at work and experiment and tinker yourself. My son started flipping through the almost entirely visual book on his own and was immediately drawn in. The first thing he built were a few of the designs for changing motor rotations into 'lifting' motions. Before very long it felt like both of us had crossed a threshold into a new world with endless new possibilities, learning and exploration ahead.
It is said that the Japanese are known as master craftsmen and for the beautiful functional simplicity of their designs. This book proves it so.

Grabbers, Gears and Gadgets

Pretty cool book. Minimal text, great pictures. Perfect for the budding engineer. If you've got the programing, but need guidance on Lego mechanics, this book is for you.
Good pictorial representations of gear ratio's, and Lego geometry. Lots of great mechanisms to inspire your creativity. No text though, so you need to be comfortable with deciphering ideas from pictures.
It is not focused on the programming side of Lego Mindstorms, but the mechanism side. It provides many examples of the mechanical subassemblies that are possible with the Lego Mindstorms kit.
The EV3 idea book gives you mechanical building blocks, and some important mechanical principals that enable your robotic ideas to successfully come to life.

Excellent book for mindstorms geeks

I would recommend this to any mindstormer, Beginner to expert. It has almost no words, which is a unique way of showing how to build a model/mechanism.
