Not her best effort

I quite like this author's romance novels but this one wasn't one of her best. It's part of a series and this is the youngest sister who gets caught in a compromising position with the H. They are forced to marry quickly. The H had previously offered marriage for the h, but she wasn't aware of it since her brother turned the H down as he didn't think him good enough for the h. The H has a scandalous reputation as a rake but all is not what it seems. The H had been married briefly a year before the start of this book but his wife had died in an accident.

I didn't like the pettiness and sniping between the H and h, it truly detracted from the romance. I found the H awfully cold towards the h and found it unrealistic that he didn't at least try and pacify her when he knew he'd hurt her, like abandoning her on their wedding night. I also found it hard to believe that although the H had loved the h from the beginning, when her brother had turned his marriage offer down, he quickly married someone else. The author does offer an explanation but I didn't buy it.

This book is a favorite of mine

This book is a favorite of mine. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters. The author's use of humorous situations and interactions was a pleasurable experience. I found it difficult to put the book down. I was immersed into the plot. The author created and maintained a high level of both interest and suspense. I hope she writes some more stories like this one. A good book!

Regency Romance

I don't usually enjoy Harlequin Historical Regency romances, but this one was pretty good. I have enjoyed other Carole Mortimer books, so I thought I might like this one, and I did.
